I am a runner!

I am a runner, I am a runner, I am a runner!!!!!!!

Now, I realize that sounds incredibly stupid from some who is training for a half marathon, but my goal was simply to walk and beat a 16min/mile pace. Beating the pace is still the goal (I am still very slow) but as I have been training/researching, Galloway's walk/run made so much sense to me. Princess J trained with a local Galloway group and has been encouraging me to give it a try. So with much trepidation, I asked another friend who is a nutritionist/trainer to give me some tips about form, etc. Well, shock of all shocks, she says I have near perfect form and had me run intervals and I did it without having a heart attack!

I am pumped! I know I am no where near being able to sustain 13.1 miles yet and I am definitely way over pace at the moment, but I NEVER thought I could run. This is the first time in my entire 41 years that I ran and did it without pain or falling or hating every second. I feel like today was a total game changer for me. There is a lot of work left to do, but I feel like not only will I be able to cross that finish line, I will be able to RUN across it!

  5. Love your blog!!!! You inspire me!! I have never ran since 6th grade...I have been using the walk/run method since early April and now am running for the better part of a mile. I have lost 35 lbs and am registered and set to tackle the Disney 1/2 marathon in February 2012.At that time i will be 1 month shy of my 60th birthday !!! See you at the finishline!!!

  6. You are SUCH an inspiration! I am also looking into doing this with much trepidation, but Jeff Galloway makes it looks SO attainable! I just used his method to complete my first 5K yesterday at the St. Pete Women's. Hope to see you at the finish line for the Disney Princess!

  7. It was amazing to read your blog. I am 44 years old and I have never been a fitness buff, but I am now hooked on the walking/running thing as well and my goal is simply to be able to have a 16 minute mile as well, and compete in the 2013 Disney Princess Half Marathon. Your Blog was written in a way that I felt like I had read it. Thanks for sharing your moment.

  8. I am 61 and ran my first half marathon at age 59 using the Jeff Galloway run/walk method. I finished in 3:07 and ran across the finish line feeling great. I am proof that anyone can finish a half marathon. I found a nifty little device called a GymBoss that beeps LOUDLY when it's time to run or walk. it worked better than the watch that I didn't always hear. Good luck Princess April.
